This policy explains how the Driving School Diary iPhone app ("the app") handles information. It is written for the UK driving instructors who use the app. In short: the app keeps your information on your own device and your private iCloud, and the developer does not collect, receive, sell or share any of it.

So the app can be your diary, it stores the information you enter, which may include:
This information is held on your device using Apple's local database and protected by iOS file protection. If you are signed into iCloud, it is also stored in your private iCloud database, under your Apple Account, so it can back up and sync to your other Apple devices. It is governed by Apple's privacy policy and your iCloud settings, and it is not accessible to us.
A small summary of your next lessons and total outstanding is written to the app's own private container so the Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets can display it. It stays on your device.
Because your pupils' personal data is entered and held under your control, and never reaches us, you (the instructor) are the data controller for your pupils' information when you use the app in your business. You are responsible for handling it lawfully, including giving your pupils any privacy information they are due and keeping the data accurate and secure. We are not a processor of that data because we never receive it. If you need a data processing agreement, none is required for the app itself, as no pupil data is processed by us.
When you scan a receipt to log an expense, the app reads it entirely on your iPhone. Text is recognised using Apple's built-in Vision framework, and on devices that support Apple Intelligence the on-device model tidies up the amount, date, shop and category it has read. The photograph and the text taken from it are processed locally and are not sent to us or to anyone else.
The app has no back end of its own. Your information leaves your device only in these specific cases, and each one is something you choose to do:
We have no access to the information you exchange with those services through the app.
The app can accept a contactless payment on the iPhone itself with Tap to Pay on iPhone, through SumUp. This is entirely optional and nothing about it runs until you connect a SumUp account yourself. If you never connect one, no card payment code is exercised and cash, bank transfer and pay links work exactly as before.
If you do connect one, the payment is processed by SumUp Payments Limited, an electronic money institution authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (reference 900700), acting as their own data controller. You log in to SumUp through their own secure screen inside the app; the app never sees your SumUp password, and the identity and anti-money-laundering checks are SumUp's, not ours. The app passes SumUp the amount, a short description and a reference for the payment, and keeps their merchant code and the transaction reference alongside the payment in your diary so your receipts and accounts add up. It never handles or stores card numbers, and the money goes to your own SumUp account and on to your bank without passing through us.
SumUp uses your device location at the moment of a card payment to help prevent fraud, which is why the app declares a location permission. The app itself does not track, store or send your location. SumUp's own privacy notice governs what they do with payment data. SumUp privacy policy
We do not share your data with anyone, because we never receive it. Anything that leaves your device does so only because you choose to send it, for example a PDF invoice or report card you share, a message you send a pupil, or a payment link you hand over.
The information stays on your device (and your private iCloud, if enabled) until you delete a record, remove it from iCloud, use the in-app reset, or delete the app. Deleting something on the device also removes it from your private iCloud copy. The reset asks you to type your school name to confirm. There is no server-side copy for us to keep.
Because your data is under your control on your own device and Apple Account, you can view, correct, export (a full backup from Settings, which you can also restore later) and delete it directly in the app and through your iCloud settings. As a UK resident you also have rights under the UK GDPR, including access, rectification and erasure; for your pupils' data you are the controller who fulfils those rights, and for any question about the app itself you can contact us at info@d4vinder.com. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
The app is a professional tool for driving instructors and is not directed at children. Learner drivers are usually 17 or over, and pupil records are created by the instructor as part of running their business. The app collects no personal information from anyone for us. Where a pupil is under 18, the instructor is responsible for handling their information appropriately.
