Include your iOS version, pfSense version and what you were doing.
A pfSense (or compatible) firewall with SSH enabled and reachable from your device, an account with root / admin privileges, and an iPhone or iPad on iOS 17.6 or later. See Getting started.
No. pfAdmin installs nothing on pfSense. It connects over standard SSH and runs read and configuration commands directly, so there is no package or agent to maintain and nothing to remove if you stop using the app.
In the firewall web UI: System → Advanced → Admin Access, tick Enable Secure Shell, pick an authentication method, and Save. Ensure a firewall rule allows SSH from the network you connect from. Full steps are in the User Guide.
Configuration screens read /conf/config.xml and run administrator-only tools.
A non-privileged account can connect but will get permission errors on Rules, NAT and similar
screens, so use root or an admin account.
Only in the on-device iOS Keychain. They are not synced to iCloud and are never sent anywhere except to authenticate with the firewalls you add. pfAdmin has no analytics and no third-party services. See the Privacy Policy.
pfAdmin pins your firewall's SSH host key so it can detect a changed key. This is expected after reinstalling pfSense or regenerating its SSH keys. If you did not expect the change, treat it as a warning and investigate before re-trusting. Only then remove and re-add the server. See Trust the host key.
Yes. Add as many as you like and switch between them in More → Servers & Settings, or see them together under All Servers.
Yes. Do not expose SSH directly to the internet: connect to your firewall's own VPN first (WireGuard, OpenVPN or IPsec/IKEv2 with the matching iOS app), then reach SSH across the tunnel. See VPN and remote access.
No. pfAdmin collects no personal data, has no analytics or tracking, and communicates only with the firewalls you configure.
Email info@d4vinder.com with as much detail as you can (iOS version, pfSense version, steps and any error text). Feedback is welcome.
